Who are you? Have you changed over the years? Do other people see you differently as you get older?

 

Franz Kafka wrote a book called "Metamorphosis" in which the 'hero' woke up one day to find he had become a beetle!  It comes as no surprise that from then on other people treated him rather differently.

 

So what about you? Who are you now? And who do people think you are?  Throughout our lives things change. You aren't the person you once were.

 

That great psychologist Karl Jung referred to this process as the journey of Individuation. An 'Individuated' person is someone who has let go of the identity we acquired when we were younger.  Jung called this earlier identity the Persona. It can also be referred to as the Ego.  There are times when we realise that our Persona/Ego identity isn't perhaps who we truly are.
