The Unethical Business Practices of Onestream Broadband and Evolve Club Ltd

The two companies in question leverage a coordinated sales tactic where customer interactions with Onestream Broadband lead to the disguised enrollment in paid subscriptions with Evolve Club Ltd. Having researched reviews on Trustpilot along with the researcher's own experience there emerge consistent patterns of unethical behaviour.

Customers entering into a primary contract with Onestream find themselves simultaneously enrolled in a trial with Evolve Club Ltd. This is verbally presented as a "free trial" attached to their broadband sign-up, which is quickly converted into an automatic monthly recurring charge despite early attempts to cancel.

Once enrolled, customers encounter significant barriers when attempting to cancel or dispute unauthorised direct debits. Evolve Club operates without an accessible customer service telephone number, relying instead on automated AI interfaces and generic, templated email replies that ignore specific customer inquiries about unauthorised billing.

The fact that Onestream Broadband and Evolve Club Ltd share common directors fundamentally shifts the context of these customer experiences from isolated operational missteps to systemic corporate malpractice.

Two corporate entities sharing executive leadership does bear any resemblance to a standard third-party partnership. Onestream appears to serve as a customer acquisition conduit for Evolve Club. By bundling Evolve Club’s high-cost subscription service into Onestream’s onboarding flow, the management team creates a pipeline that converts broadband sign-ups into unethically acquired recurring additional revenue. The practice of enrolling customers into subscription services where passive inaction leads to continuous charges—particularly when coupled with hidden cancellation paths—violates fundamental principles of consumer fairness and transparency.

The governance structure creates a contradictory dynamic: Onestream’s frontline support agents are tasked with protecting their brand image by repairing damage caused by Evolve Club, while the shared directorate profits from the subscription revenues generated by those same aggressive opt-in methods. The customer service function on the broadband side effectively acts as a damage-control mechanism for an intentional corporate strategy designed to capture subscription fees.

Ethical corporate governance requires clear lines of communication and accountability. Evolve Club's deliberate reliance on unhelpful AI routing, the absence of phone support, and automated template emails designed to avoid answering billing disputes demonstrates a deliberate effort to create friction in the cancellation process. Shielding a business behind automated barriers while continuing to pull direct debits constitutes an unethical extraction of funds, deliberately frustrating the consumer's ability to exercise their right to cancel.
